Wear On Charging Handle

im new here, and very new to building my own AR. i am not new to rifles, so i have that going for me, but i havent handled an AR type of weapon since my military days way back, and can be honest to say i never paid too much attention to the charging handle.
my question and concern is, how much of the forward portion of the charging handle should the bolt come in contact with? ive run into an issue just a week ago while assembling what i have, of the cheap charging handle that came with the upper parts kit, literally peeling back a layer of aluminum after just maybe 6 pulls back of the charging handle. so, i replaced the charging handle, and it works great now. however, ive noticed that the new charging handle has wear marks, as i would expect, but im curious if the charging handle should be riding as high as it is on the bolt. knowing that AR parts should be, for the most part, precision parts, i have a worried feeling that the charging handle is riding a bit high on the charging handle catch on the BCG. see picture below to see where this one seems to ride while it is in the rifle. im hoping to see if anyone can confirm if this looks like something to be concerned of. the fact that it rides as high as it does, seems to be the reason why the garbage charging handle peeled a layer away.
